This blog began as a journal of a Winston Churchill Memorial Trust Travel Award visit to the USA to study how Lifestyle Redesign could be used in Occupational Therapy to improve the hospital/home interface for older people. It has continued to record developments and inspiration gained from that experience since returning from Los Angeles early in 2012.

E is for Equipment...

Equipment

There is a big market for equipment for disability and to help with some of the problems old age can bring. Some ‘gadgets’ can be a real help, others not so useful- and what works for someone else may not work for you.

If you are looking at buying bigger items, especially things like beds and chairs, these can be very expensive so it is worth taking some time to make sure that you are spending your money on something that is really going to work well for you.

Your Occupational Therapist will be able to give advice- and you may even be entitled to have some equipment provided free of charge in the UK. Another useful resource is the Disabled Living Foundation (DLF) website. It has Fact Sheets giving advice on choosing a variety of different equipment.

Age proof your life by avoiding costly mistakes!
